From about 7-8 years old, I became a lover of comic books. I try to watch these adaptations with an open mind but deep down I hope the storylines and the quality of these films make me feel like a child again who’s filled with excitement and satisfaction.
After hearing this film was a flop when it was released, I refused to watch it until now. I decided to give it a chance only to experience for myself how bad it was. I made it halfway through before falling asleep due to boredom. I woke up about 10mins before the end as Dr Doom was trying his best to destroy Earth.
Most of the film was shot darkly and felt more like a DC film. Even DC seem to make questionable films these days. Marvel has some dark storylines but always try their best to show them in a bright way, which helps you feel happy throughout whether you’re watching a film or reading a comic. It feels like the writer and director came together to make a Victoria Sponge Cake using the correct main ingredients and for some reason refused to follow the receipt that has been so perfect for so long.
Fox decided to reboot the Fantastic 4 franchise because they still owned the rights to the characters and didn’t want Marvel to purchase them back. The previous franchise from 2005-2007 wasn’t as bad as people make them out to be. You have to remember those films were released back when people like myself who are lovers of comic books were still classed as nerds and in my opinion, it was only until Iron Man came out that the rest of the world truly fell in love with the superhero cinematic universes and the comic books they came from.
My Star rating: 1/5.
On 20th March 2019, Disney purchased the powerhouse that gave us The Simpsons, 21st Century Fox. This means Disney now have the opportunity to release this franchise for the 3rd time and hopefully, fingers crossed get it right.
Have you watched it?... What did you think?... Let me know.
