If you’re like me and you grew up in the 90s, you’ll agree with me when I say: we grew up with some of the best shows tv had to offer for children of all ages. I woke up this morning to see the exciting news announced by Nickelodeon that the Rugrats is returning to our tv screens and top it off, the original cast has returned to voice the beloved characters. The series will receive its reboot debut on Paramount Plus.
All the powerhouses are now introducing their online streaming platform, so I’m not surprised that this tv show will receive its reboot debut on Paramount’s platform any time after the 4th March 2021 when the streaming service goes live. The series has upgraded to 3D animation instead of the old-school beloved 2D feel. Is 3D the right choice? I’m not sure yet as sometimes it soils the things we love the most, but I’m willing to give it a chance.
The episode I remember the most is where the crew was eating some Watermelon and Chuckie happened to swallow a seed and being the scaredy-cat he is, he thought he was going to die. To make it worse, Angelica told them the seed would grow inside Chuckie stomach into a huge Watermelon that would take on a life of its own. Tommy and the rest of the crew hatched up a plan to shrink themselves and fly into Chuckie’s stomach to remove the seed before he died.
I know the show is only a cartoon, but with such a believable storyline and a wild imagination as a child, I thought it was something that could happen to me too if I wasn’t careful. I didn’t eat Watermelon for a while afterwards or anything else with seeds, to be honest.
If you never grew up watching Rugrats, your childhood was different I guess and unfortunately, you missed out on one of the most iconic cartoons of all time. Rugrats is up there with Tom & Jerry, The Simpsons, Pinky & The Brain, Doug and Recess. I could name cartoon tv shows all day that not only shaped my childhood but the childhood of millions of children around the world.
Are you ready to see Tommy and the crew back on your tv screens?
